THE THIRD WAR [2005]
As the series began to increase in popularity, so did the number of robots wanting to compete. Preliminary qualification rounds were added before the series even began, with the winners gaining a place in one of the eight heats, also increased to allow more robots into the arena. As ever, the seeded machines automatically qualified, they included Chaos 2, Revolutionist, Storm, Disco Inferno, Arctic and Battlebot. Hefty was also given a seed, and was the favourite for Heat 7, as it won the New Blood tournament in the last series. The first series of Extreme screened just a few weeks after the final, consisting of a mix of tournaments, including the All Stars, where Chaos 2 lost its two-time crown to Disco Inferno. It also featured the first fight to star APD, an eventual veteran.

THE FOURTH WAR [2006]
HEATS [16 episodes]
PIT STATS
At its peak, the Fourth Wars consisted of many new robots, and again consisted of eight contested heats. Returning automatically as seeds were Revolutionist, Disco Inferno, Chaos 2, Wheely Big Cheese, Storm and Battlebot. Firestorm suffered huge technical failures and Razer retired, so APD was given a seed based on its first performance in the last series, and Antarctic was controversially given a seed, based on its Soccer Tournament victory and beating Arctic in the heats. Hefty would later prove victorious, and would be the only unseeded robot ever (despite being a seed in the Third War) to go on and win a war. In each heat, The Challenger tournament featured. A few weeks later the second series of Extreme aired, and was originally intended to be the last series to be filmed, with the Vicious Vengeance heat to be the last tournament to be filmed.

THE FIFTH WAR [2007]
We waited a whole year for the fifth series to premier. This was due to a change in studio where the series was filmed, and talks of ending the series were already happening during filming. As ever, 8 seeds returned. Hefty, Storm 2, Radar Response, Chaos 2, APD2 and Revolutionist all returned, with Forklift's Revenge added as a seed due to its success in the New Blood tournament. Battlebot was also given a seed, despite being knocked out in the second round in the Fourth War. Storm 2 came back hugely improved, and went on to win the war after coming so close in previous wars. After the Grand Final episode, there were shows planned for a third Extreme series, including the Annihilator, All Stars and the Second World Championships. Due to creative differences, these heats never came to fruition. It would be 10 years before new episodes were made.

THE SIXTH WAR [2017]
HEATS [7 episodes]
PIT STATS
To coincide with the new series of the actual TV show, it was only a matter of time before this series was resurrected. Answering to both demand and the new BBC series, the Sixth War was announced in 2016. The series consisted of six heats and a Final heat; the first heat was released in February 2017. Only a handful of original robots returned, including champions Storm 2. Six robots were seeded based on past experience, they were, APD3, Tyrant, Radar Response, Storm 2, Forklift's Revenge and Revolutionist. The number of robots per heat reduced to four, making way for an entirely new knockout stage which involved group stages rather than straight wins. The arena was totally revamped and upgraded to make way for the new hazards, with Sir Killalot, Dead Metal, Shunt, Matilda and Refbot all returning as house robots. The series proved a success, and was quickly renewed for a seventh series.

THE SEVENTH WAR [2018]
HEATS [9 episodes]
PIT STATS
After the success of the last series, the seventh war went into production in October 2017. The series aired in early 2018 and consisted of 9 episodes. As a first for the series, the six winning robots from each heat were split into two groups of three, with the runners up from each heat being given the chance to join the winners in two special redemption battles. As a result, two semi-finals featured, and consisted of a group knockout stage, similar to the sixth wars. Arguably the best series ever made, it featured the return of the house robots and modified arena, with a new added feature - the rogue robot. Extreme III followed in late 2018 which featured 4 independent tournaments and also featured the return of Sgt Bash, Growler and Mr Psycho.

THE EIGHTH WAR [2019]
HEATS [8 episodes]
PIT STATS
With much debate about the future, a decision to bring the series back was confirmed in June 2019. The series featured 8 episodes and included the show's 100th episode, bringing old favourites back to the arena, and also had a nostalgic nod to past series, combining old formats with the modern arena, house robots, and set-up. For the first time since Series 2, the Pinball Tournament returned which featured in each heat. The series also saw the first ever 6-way battle - a set-up always overlooked due to the logistics of controlling all 6 robots. The Fog of War was also introduced as a new arena hazard.
