THE TOP TEN rankings

WARNING: THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS FROM EACH SERIES
When the Eighth Wars commenced, we saw seeds tumble and newcomers flourish, as well as past veterans returning. Our ranking system is based on overall performance since the series started, taking into account consistency, dormancy and pedigree. The ten robots listed below are true all stars, and have rarely dipped out of the top ten.

REVOLUTIONIST

1

The most famous robot to ever grace the arena is the most experienced and oldest competitor in the series. The triple-time champion has only failed to reach the Grand Final twice from all eight appearances, and is always a threat in the arena. It recently underwent modifications with upgraded armour and an added third tooth on the disc. Revolutionist's ranking has only ever dipped once after Series 2, since then, it has remained at the top spot for a record-breaking 14 years. There will never be another robot like it.

BOT FROM THE BLUE

The most recent champion, Bot From The Blue literally came out to play like a bolt from the blue. It swept up during Series 8, and rose to the challenge, flipping all but one opponent out of the arena. Bot From The Blue is the first novice and debut robot to win the title, and in doing so has put it as the 2nd most dangerous robot in the series. It even eliminated Revolutionist, in the quickest ever fight witnessed. It then won the Champion of Champions tournament, and is yet to lose a single fight, with a winning tally of 10 wins in a row.

WITCH DOCTOR

Despite not winning its heat in Series 7 and coming through the robot redemption round in the semi final, Witch Doctor stunned us all, defeating Storm 2 and Adriel 2. Witch Doctor's moment in the sun came against Revolutionist - and won - the only robot to have done this in Series 7. It returned for Series 8 with a new back flipper, defeated Disco Inferno, Radar Response, Razer and Royal Pain, before losing out to Bot From The Blue. It's slowly progressed up the rankings and is now considered the most dangerous vertical spinner in the series.

STORM 3

Performing consistently since debuting in the Second War, previous champions Storm 3 are always a threat and is overall still regarded as one of the best robots of all time. Dropping a few places in recent years after a couple of below-par battles, the third incarnation of Storm now relies more on front armour and speed, and despite losing out in Series 8, maintains consistency and is regarded as the best pushing robot in the series.

DISCO INFERNO

The best ever vertical flywheel, Disco Inferno's only threat in the arena has been Revolutionist. Capable of immense destruction, it has only failed to reach the Semi Final once. It went into retirement after the Fourth War, but has since returned to form but is still eagerly awaiting top spot - something denied in Series 8 due to an unfortunate tussle with the spike pit. It has also recently fallen foul to losing its own weapon, and because of this, has slipped down the rankings. Despite this, and feeling quite tired and in need of a radical makeover, this machine is capable of ultimate carnage.

CHALLENGER

After bursting on the scene and challenging the old guard, Challenger became a hot new contender after winning the Sixth War. Dropping a couple of places after losing out in the last couple of years, designs have changed and Challenger's improved flipper was hoping to work wonders in Series 8 but suffered a shock early exit, and never recovered. Because of this, Challenger has slipped down a few places, but are still considered to be one of the best flippers ever seen.

WHEELY BIG CHEESE

Prior to fighting in Series 8, Wheely Big Cheese was last seen fighting over 13 years ago, when it ended its campaign in Series 4. Always consistent and entertaining, Wheely Big Cheese has arguably the best flipper ever seen. Its highest ranking came 13 years ago, after reaching the Grand Final in Series 3 and coming 4th. After its campaign in Series 8, Wheely Big Cheese wowed us all, but again faulted at the end, landing in 4th place once more.

THOR II

A vast overhaul after the Fourth War gave Thor II the credit it deserves. Coming 4th place twice in a row has become an irritation for Thor II and they are desperately attempting to climb higher after staying static for quite some time. With another design improvement after Series 7, things looked up for Thor, but suffered an early exit after losing to Royal Pain in the Heat Final. Still regarded as the best axebot in the series, Thor II's day in the sun is yet to be seen.

TOMBSTONE

Just making the top ten, Tombstone had a devastating Seventh War, beating Radar Response, Adriel 2 and Disco Inferno. Coming back completely unchanged, this proved a minor weakness as it faced off in a heat full of potential, including Wheely Big Cheese, who proceded to throw Tombstone out of the arena in dramatic style. This robot really does leave you dead and buried and should never be underestimated.

BATTLEBOT

A real crowd pleaser, Battlebot holds the record for being the only robot to have flipped a house robot out of the arena, as well as flipping out two robots in one flip. It lost in its heat final to Challenger in Series 7 but made it through the redemption round, in Series 8, they returned unchanged and lost to Bot From The Blue. One of the only original robots still fighting strong, which makes Battlebot a worthy competitor.
